Review: Italian Gardens

I was excited to check out Italian Gardens, the latest restaurant to open in the charming spot at 1228 S. Sixth St.

The short form: Italian Gardens has promise. Owner Jeff Camp told me he wants to move the menu from huge portions of “Omaha Italian” — think mounds of spaghetti and red sauce and a giant plate of chicken cacciatore — to regionally focused small plates. Sounds like a fantastic move to me. If he does it, the restaurant will have Italian for almost any kind of diner.

Above: Arancini risotto balls, which are popping up on more and more menus around town, and red and white sauce over gnocchi.
