Eating the CWS

If you follow me on Twitter, you already know that I’ve been spending a lot of time since Friday at TD Ameritrade Stadium eating my way through the College World Series.

Before the series started last week, I went to a press conference and tried some of the new food that’s being served on the concourse this year. And let me tell you, some of this stuff was pretty crazy.

My breakfast.

First up, intense hot dog and giant meatballs. Top to bottom: the Thai dog, the potato salad/beans/bbq sauce dog and the meatball sub that dreams are made of. (It’s actually called “meatball mania.”)

Then there are some intense desserts: lots of different flavors of bars — I tried the lemon bar and a cinnamon-y chocolate chip graham bar — but I did not sample the S’mores cake. I know it’s for sale by the slice on the concourse during games.

Outside the stadium, I’ve hung out with my friend Cara, who is the World-Herald’s nightlife reporter. She came with me to help on a story I wrote that compared two locations of Zesto — the one by the old Rosenblatt and the new one in north downtown. We tried strawberry and vanilla sprinkle cones in north downtown, and Cara got a burger at the south Omaha Zesto.

We also checked out Blatt, the Slowdown’s beer garden and Goodnights on the first night of the series last Friday.

Bomb Digs food truck.

Rounders from the Localmotive Food Truck.

Overpriced iced teas at Goodnights. (nearly $8 with tip for two plastic cups!)

The view from Blatt’s rooftop patio toward the stadium.

What have you been eating and drinking during the series so far?
