The fifth installment in my year-long Food Prowl series is among the most controversial, after reuben and spaghetti. A lot of fans of Cupcake Island called and emailed me saying it was their favorite. I like that, though — when people read a story I wrote and feel impassioned enough to call me, whatever they think, it means I wrote a good story.

But I stand firm on the choice we made — the chocolate cupcake at Bliss that took home the prize is sinfully good. And even though I might still be thinking about that perfect vanilla cupcake at Sweet Magnolia’s, I know we gave the prize to the right spot.
